Pregnancy and Postpartum Care

Pregnancy:

There are special considerations that need to be taken when treating a pregnant patient. At Form PT, we have the highest available qualifications from the American Physical Therapy Association for treating this special population. This examination is similar to an orthopedic exam and includes treatments and education tailored to your unique needs. This evaluation will include assessments of posture, strength, body mechanics and function.

We specialize in the treatment of low back pain, pubic bone pain, sacroiliac pain, hip and groin pain, incontinence during pregnancy and more. At the initial visit a plan of care will be discussed and follow-up visits will be scheduled based on your individual needs.

Postpartum:

Physical therapy treatment in the postpartum period is very important for the body's full recovery after giving birth. We specialize in the recovery of abdominal and pelvic floor muscle function and the safe reconditioning of the postpartum woman.

We treat abdominal and perineal trauma and pain related to pregnancy and childbirth including abdominal muscle separation (diastasis rectus abdominus - DRA), cesarean section and episiotomy scarring and pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. Associated conditions treated include low back pain, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain or pain with intercourse, and more.  This evaluation is similar to an orthopedic evaluation and will include an assessment of posture, strength, abdominal muscle integrity and functional mobility.

A pelvic floor muscle assessment may also be appropriate to determine how these muscles have healed and how they are functioning after childbirth, and this will be discussed at evaluation. At the initial visit a plan of care will be discussed and follow-up visits will be scheduled at this time based on your individual needs. We want to help you to a full recovery and a return to the activities you love!
